Cancellieri Displays Brief Sparks of Genius in Silver Lining for Unstable Lazio

The atmosphere at their home stadium was anything but joyful this past Saturday. Lazio were trailing against Torino, an opponent that had let in a total of 10 goals while netting just two in their most recent five league matches. Supporters from the Curva Nord were wrapping up their most recent demonstration in an ongoing feud with club owner Claudio Lotito.

A Season Coming Unstitched?

The club brought back Maurizio Sarri as head coach this summer, before he to later acknowledge that the management had not mentioned a registration embargo they were about to receive for fiscal problems. Speculation that he might quit were without basis, but he stated that Lotito had "swindled" him.

The club's longtime sporting director, Igli Tare, whose tenure ended after that campaign, later stated Sarri of "promising everyone Cancellieri had superstar potential but then not selecting him."

Discovering His Natural Fit

Perhaps the manager was still trying to determine the nature of his skill set. Billed as a flank player when he joined, Cancellieri yet was deployed for much of that season as an ineffective backup to Ciro Immobile at No 9. In 63 appearances on loan at Empoli and Parma in the past two years, he scored seven times. Shoehorn
